Today something magical happened, 120 elementary students from Henryville, IN jumped in a bus and headed down the road to Louisville for a day of fun at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Louisville Science Center. I say this day was magical, because not only did it give these kids a fun day away from all the devastation, but it also impacted me in a way I wasn’t expecting. How easy it is to forget how lucky we are, take advantage of the things we have in our daily lives; clothing, food, a roof over our head. To hear these kids ask each another if they still had a home was surreal. They weren’t asking about who liked who or if their homework was completed, it was simply, do you still have a home. Often times, we get so caught up in our busy work day and forget to take the time off to simply appreciate the little things. For me, I was so lucky to be able to take the time off today to enjoy these two world-class museums with this amazing group of kids.
A big thank you to Marjorie Dunn (from Urban Corp Promotions) who graciously organized this event, Louisville Slugger Museum and Louisville Science Center for free admission and entertainment, Bearno’s Pizza for providing lunch, and Louisville Dessert Truck for the yummy cupcakes. This is just one of the many reasons I LOVE Louisville, a community that gives back to those in need.
