It’s time to head out to the waterfront with 10,000 of your closest friends to celebrate all things summer. Free music in the park, drinks, and good friends. Ah yeah!

So what’s on the radar this week? Monsters, Mixers, and Music! We’ve handpicked the best of the best events this week just for you, who are New2Lou. Looking for more events around town? Wednesday (7/30) Waterfront Wednesday - Free summer concerts presented by WFPK and Waterfront Development Corporation on the last Wednesday of every month. Featured artist this month: Ben SolleeThe Deloreans, and Steelism. Music starts at 6 pm. Free and open to the public.

Thursday (7/31) John Butler Trio - Not only does Iroquois Amphitheater host summer movies, but great concerts too, like John Butler Trio this Thursday. If you haven’t been to Iroquois Amphitheater, get on it. It’s a super cool outdoor venue right here in the city. Tickets are $30 and still available. Other upcoming concerts this month: Rodrigo y Gabriela (8/10), Umphrey’s McGee (8/14), and Appalatin (8/30).

Friday (8/1) Who’s Bad - A Tribute to Michael JacksonWho doesn’t love Michael Jackson, right? This show  at the Mercury Ballroom is sure to impress. We’re sure you’ll not only know the songs, but might even break out the moonwalk just because you can. Show starts at 9 pm. Tickets start at $19.

Friday (8/1)- Saturday (8/2) The Phantom of the Opera - The Monsters Series, a celebration of horror classics from Universal Studios, kicks off at the Louisville Palace with The Phantom of the Opera (1925 silent version). The series runs the entire month of August and includes classics Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, and more!

Saturday (8/2) Bark Brunch At The Cafe - Grab your BFF and your four-legged friend for brunch Saturday morning at The Cafe. And get there early, because the first 25 people to come in will get a special doggie bag with a special Max doggie bandana and more!

Saturday (8/2) The return of JENNA DEAN with 1200 and more! Last chance to catch local band Jenna Dean before guitarist Jason D’Mello heads out to California (boo, we’ll really miss him). Join the party at Haymarket Whiskey this Saturday as they blow it out with a night of live instrumentation hip-hop/soul with local hip-hop artists 1200. Show starts at 9 pm.

Sunday (8/3) OMC Polo Cup - Enjoy the sport of kings Original Makers Club style with bourbon, horses, and culinary delights. “FRamily” (friends and family) atmosphere and super fun way to spend a Sunday! General Admission is $20 and VIP Tailgate Spots available for $100 per car load. A special award for best tailgate so you best bring it. Location => Lexington ~ 1 hr drive from Louisville, but totally worth the drive.

On the Radar

Wednesday (8/6) Forge - Mix and mingle with the who’s who in the startup community. Forge, a community for innovators, is hosting a networking event featuring Kent Oyler, CEO of Greater Louisville Inc at the Green Building. Free event, but registration required. Added bonus, free beer thanks to the fine folks at Falls City Beer.

Friday (8/8) Bourbon Mixer - A joint fundraiser splashed together by the Whisky Chicks and the Bourbon Brotherhood at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. Enjoy bourbon history, southern cuisine, and of course bourbon! All for a great cause. Tickets are $100 each or $180 a couple. Proceeds will benefit the Coalition for the Homeless.

Saturday (8/23) Louisville Bucket List - We’re teaming up with Yelp Louisville to bring you the Louisville Bucket List, Derby City must dos for those both new and old 2 Lou. Next on the List: Go on The Louisville Quest, part race, part scavenger hunt and part historical, sight-seeing tour. Discounts for our group: $30 for people 21 and up and $25 for people ages 11-20 and military members and their families. RSVP on the Yelp page.
