Music, Museums, Valentines & Zombies

Happy February to you!  Hopefully you are still keeping up those New Year’s Resolutions and if not, no worries, there’s always next year.  What’s our new year’s resolution? To get out and be more social, of course!  And this week certainly has plenty of opportunities to do just that.

 Now - End of February $5 February on Museum Row - month-long $5 admission promo for Kentucky and Indiana residents to world-class attractions right here in our own backyard, Downtown Louisville to be exact. Who’s participating? The Frazier History Museum, KentuckyShow!, Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and Muhammad Ali Center.

Wednesday (2/6) FREE Classical Concert at the Kentucky Center - tonight at 6:30 pm, enjoy a free, yes free, classical concert presented by the Kentucky Center of the Performing Arts and Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) featuring Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Youth Orchestra, trumpeter Natalie Dungey, and conductor Jason Seber.

Thursday (2/7) The Balcony Unwind. Plug In.Actors Theatre presents a second installment of The Balcony during the performance of Girlfriend.  $20 tickets, balcony seats and tweeting, yes tweeting, pinning, posting, etc is encouraged during the show.  Tickets also include a private pre-show reception in the theatre.

Friday (2/8) - Saturday (2/9) VaVa Valentine 2013 - The VaVa Vixons,  modern day Vaudeville-style Burlesque Variety show, features over 25 beautiful and talented women (and men) performing at Headliners Music Hall.  Tickets $20/ VIP $30. Do0rs open at 7 pm, show starts at 8 pm. Additional shows on February 15 and 16.

Saturday (2/9) 2nd Annual NuLu Valentine Open House - NuLu businesses will be open extended hours 10 am - 5 pm and offering specials/discounts and refreshments.  Perfect opportunity to get that something special for that someone special. Family-friendly and open-to-the-public in the NuLu (East Market) District.

Saturday (2/9) Discount Guns and Ranger at Zanzabar - two awesome local bands Discount Guns and Ranger will be playing at Zanzabar, one of the favorite local music venues, this Saturday. Doors open at 8 pm, show starts at 9 pm. Cover is $5.

 

Sunday (2/10) Walking Dead Season 3 Part 2 Premiere- Ok, ok, so this isn’t a local event, but that doesn’t mean we’re any less excited about it.  After a break between Season 3, we finally get to see the match up against the two baddest boys in town.  The Walking Dead is on AMC at 9 pm EST.  Here’s a sneak peek

February 11 GuardiaCare Chocolate Dreams - For any chocoholic, this event is a dream come true. Over 25 culinary professionals presenting their best chocolate dessert creations and best part is, you get to sample them all while supporting a great organization GuardiaCare.  Tickets are $60 per person $110 per couple.

February 13 New2Lou Social at the Kentucky Center - Mark your calendars for our February 2nd Wed social. Join us for a drink or two, meet some new people and try a new place next Wed (2/13) from 5:30 - 8:30 pm at the Kentucky Center. Free and open to the public,even if you are “Old2Lou”.

February 16 Year of the Snake Party - Join Louisville Third Century and the Crane House Young Professionals in celebrating the Year of the Snake. Dance, eat, play, and bet from 9:30 pm - 1 am.  Dress to impress. Red and gold cocktail attire is encouraged. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door.

February 22-March 3 502 Restaurant Week- Mark your calendars for Louisville’s Official Restaurant Week! Wine and dine at participating restaurants for $50.20 (how clever, 502 area code = price) for a 3-course pre-fix meal for two.  They also have a free app to help you navigate the dining scene, perfect for those of us that are New2Lou.
