End of the World As We Know It

I know, I know, we said we were taking a break, but wanted to send out one last post before the end of the world.  We’re assuming  most of you will be heading home for the holidays like us, so we’ll be brief.  What’s on the radar?  Dancing, drinking, end of the world, no biggie (hehe).  Find more events by clicking on the local calendars on our events page.  And be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.

Happy Holidays and New Year to all of you, who are New2Lou!  And mark your calendars for our next 2nd Wednesday social on January 9th and Bourbon 101 event at the end of January (brilliant huh, cause new folks need to know about bourbon).  Event details will be posted on our website soon.

Wednesday (12/19) Half-Price Wednesday Nights – “Diana: A Celebration” - Haven’t been to the “Diane: A Celebration” Exhibit yet at the Frazier History Museum?  Tonight  is the perfect opportunity. Arrive at the Frazier between 4 and 8 pm and receive half off admission to the exhibition.

Thursday (12/20) Holiday Hoe Down with the Paw Paw Pickers - a Third Thursday Square Dance event, yep you heard me correctly, square dancing.  Don’t know how to square dance?  No worries, beginners dance workshop starts at 7:30 pm, so get there early to learn some basic steps.  Live music by the Paw Paw Pickers. $5 admission, kids free.

Friday (12/21) End of the World Party at Apocalypse Brew WorksApocalypse Brew Works is hosting an End Of The World party on you guessed it, December 21st, the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar.  Craft brews,  food trucks Grind and French Indo Canada, music, end-of-times themed movies, and fire barrels, so you can party like it’s “1999″, in this case 12/21/12.

Saturday (12/22) The MAMMOTH Holiday Bazaar - the fine folks that organize Flea Off Market in NuLu are recommending you check out the holiday bazaar at the Mammoth in SoBro (South Broadway) this Saturday.  There will be lots of great holiday gift options from local artisans, music and entertainment.  If you’re in town and the world hasn’t ended, you should definitely go.

Sunday (12/23) Christmas Carol - the last chance to see the holiday classic A Christmas Carol at Actors Theatre of Louisville.  Grab your family and friends and watch the characters Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future come to life on the stage.  The perfect way to get you in the holiday “spirit”.

Sunday (12/23) Brown-Forman Nutcracker - the last day to catch a wonderful holiday tradition, the Nutcracker, performed by the Louisville Ballet at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.  Tickets range from $27 to $97 and can be purchased here.

December End of the Word Special Menu at Mayan Cafe - in anticipation of the end of the Mayan calendar, chef Bruce Ucán, and his brother, chef Willy Ucán, have created a special prix-fixe menu made of up of dishes they would eat if it was the last meal of their lives.  The special menu is available the entire month of December and trust us, you don’t want to miss it.  Make your reservations today.

On the Radar

Any interest in having New2Lou host a NYE party next year? If so, let us know so we can start planning a 2013 NYE bash.  We’ll give you a little hint on a proposed theme, you’ll have a “ball”.  Any guesses?  Until then, below are a couple of NYE options for 2012:

December 31 New Years Late Night Bash on the Belle - Ring in the New Year on the historic Belle of Louisville.  Live DJ, hors d’oeuvres, champagne at midnight, and party favors.  Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased in advance  here.

December 31 New Year’s Eve Party at 21C- celebrate New Year’s Eve at one of the coolest parties in the city.  21C is transforming the Atrium Gallery into a swanky lounge from 8 pm - 1 am.  Live DJ, dancing, balloon drop and of course bubbly.  Cost is $40 per person and includes two cocktails. Must be 21+ years old.
